No Max Contracts Offered to Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun

No Max Contracts Offered to Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun

The Houston Rockets are not considering giving max contracts to Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green. Both players will become restricted free agents after the upcoming season. Sports Betting Solution experts said Sengun and Green received contract extension offers. However, they might want to test the free agency for a maximum contract deal.

Monday is the cutoff for extending the deadline. Two days after that, on the road in Charlotte, the Rockets will face the Hornets in the first game of the regular season.

Green is expected to participate in the 2024-25 season thanks to a $12.5 million club option, while Şengün is slated to join according to a $5.4 million club option.

No Max Contracts for Sengun and Green

Each player can earn a rookie deal worth up to $225 million over five years. According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, both players would make history if they signed rookie max extensions for that amount. The last player to do so was Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat in 2020.

No Max Contracts Offered to Jalen Green and Alperen SengunIn the last several weeks, Şengün has often expressed his interest in extending his contract with the team to the media. Last season, he achieved a career-high 21.2 points and 9.3 assists, which helped him secure third place in the Most Improved Player poll.

At the same time, Green informed Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle that he desired an extension but was more concerned about the next season than his future contract. Green had a career-high 5.2 rebounds per game and saw an offensive surge in the late 2023–24 season.

Marks pointed out that the Rockets might wind up with more salary room in 2025 free agency if they postpone the Green and Åžengün agreements until next summer, similar to the Philadelphia 76ers, who used Tyrese Maxey’s free agent hold to their advantage when extending him this offseason.

Although Green and Şengün might not be able to sign new contracts until restricted free agency next year, the Rockets may still want to construct their future roster around them, even if neither young star re-signs before Monday. Other NBA Rumors

During extension talks, the Denver Nuggets allegedly had no intention of giving forward Aaron Gordon the maximum deal worth $150 million over four years. Gordon’s eligibility for a new deal is $150 million. Still, the Nuggets hope to sign him to a deal below that amount, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on Friday’s episode of The Hoop Collective.

The present deal Gordon is signed to has two more years to go, and it has a player option for the 2025–26 season for $22.8 million. Potentially worth $37.5 million annually, a $150 million contract may last for four years. After his current deal expires in 2026–27, Gordon’s average yearly income would rise to the ninth-highest among NBA power forwards, according to Spotrac, assuming the maximum extension is signed and goes into effect.

The seven players above Gordon have all made at least one All-Star appearance, so it’s a heavy price to pay, even with his off-the-ball offensive effect and defensive savvy. There was hope for an extension on media day on September 26, despite reports of a reluctance to pay Gordon the total sum he is qualified for.
