However, there are still several NBA teams hoping that this week will determine where they stand in the playoffs. NBA Eastern Conference Playoff and Play-In Tournament Update
For the NBA Eastern Conference, we have the Boston Celtics, the Milwaukee Bucks that will be going to playoffs. So far, the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks have a guaranteed Play-In spot. However, that leaves off several teams fighting for a playoff or a play-in spot. These are: the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat
Unfortunately for these teams, they are out of the running this year. They are: Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons
NBA Western Conference Playoff and Play-In Tournament Update
On the other hand, in the NBA Western Conference, almost all of the Playoffs teams are already set in stone. Thus, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, LA Clippers, and the Dallas Mavericks are in. The only thing missing is determining which team will get the remaining Playoff spot and be in the Play-In Tournament.
The only thing we know for sure is that these NBA teams are out for the year: Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs.
What is the Play-In Tournament and How Does it Work?
The NBA Play-in tournament is there to determine which other 2 basketball teams will play in the NBA Playoffs. In the NBA Playoffs, only the top 6 teams in each conference is guaranteed a spot. However, for the rest of the teams that rank 7 thru 10, they must undergo an elimination process via the tournament. Therefore, at the end of the Play-In Tournament, the 2 winning teams will get a chance at the playoffs.
For the first day of the Play-in Tournament, the No. 7 team in each conference will host the No. 8 team. The winner will get the No. 7 seed in the playoffs. However, the losing teams get another chance in Friday’s Game 3s.
On the second day, each No. 9 team in each conference will host the No. 10 team. The winner will move on to Game 3. As to the losers, they are eliminated and enter the NBA draft lottery.
On the third day of the tournament, the losers of the No. 7 vs. No. 8 matchups will host the winners of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 matchups. The winning teams will each get No. 8 seed in their conference in the postseason. In addition, the losers of Game 3 will enter the NBA draft lottery.

2024 NBA Play-In Tournament Schedule
The SoFI Play-In Tournament will take place April 16 thru 19, 2024.
- Game 1s will be on Tuesday April 16, 2024
- Game 2s will be on Wednesday April 17, 2024
- Game 3s will be on Thursday April 19, 2024
